CEREBRAL PALSY DIAGNOSIS

It is very difficult to diagnose cerebral palsy at birth and as it is not a genetic disease therefore there is no way for checking blood of the baby to find out if they are carriers. Symptoms in infants such as rigidity or abnormal floppiness can lead a doctor to diagnose cerebral palsy but these symptoms are usually not present at birth.

One of the easiest ways of diagnosing a child for cerebral palsy is to run tests in order to rule out other conditions. One of the reasons for this is because other conditions tend to have similar symptoms. Tests can be undertaken so it will determine if the child is having cerebral palsy or not. Even though there is no one test for determining cerebral palsy on its own but doctor’s carry out a series of tests so that other conditions can be ruled out.

Cerebral palsy tests can only diagnose the child but it cannot tell why the child developed this condition.

Some of the other tests which can help in determining cerebral palsy are:

Genetic tests
Blood tests
Vision and hearing testing
Metabolic tests
