CEREBRAL PALSY LIFE EXPECTANCY
The life expectancy in case of adults suffering from cerebral palsy ranges from around 30 years for patients suffering from severe symptoms to 60 to 70 years for patients suffering from moderate cerebral palsy.
Studies tend to suggest that most people suffering from cerebral palsy will eventually end up suffering decline in gross motor function. One of the major factors for life expectancy in cerebral palsy is feeding and gross motor function. Kids who are fully ambulatory and self feeding tend to have life expectancies which are less than normal. Some of the less significant factors include cognitive function, fine motor function and epilepsy.
One must keep in mind that life expectancy of children suffering cerebral palsy is related to the severity of their disabilities and brain injury. People having rigidity and severe spasticity tend to have shorter life expectancy whereas people having mild to moderate cerebral palsy complications tend to live longer.
Depending upon the amount of variables which tend to affect the average cerebral palsy life expectancy rate, it is not possible to pinpoint on the age of survival. The best thing would be to focus on present physical and mental health and plan for the future in long term.
