Spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy is caused as a result of extensive brain damage. Many factors which include maternal and fetal infections and exposure to toxins can cause the brain of the unborn baby to develop in an abnormal manner. The brain tends to be susceptible to abnormal development during the first twenty weeks of pregnancy.
Since spastic quadriplegia tends to affect the entire body of the patient, it can cause several types of limb deformities. The pull of spastic muscles on the bones can lead to severe problems.
Food deformities tend to be common in case of spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy. People suffering from spastic quadriplegia might face difficulty in swallowing and this could lead to respiratory difficulties in case the food is aspirated. Spastic quadriplegia can be easily diagnosed in infancy when physicians or parents tend to notice a significant delay in the development of the baby.
Spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy can only be treated with physical therapy and the motive of physical therapy is to strengthen limbs and prevent contracture which is a condition in which muscles tend to become so stiff that they don’t move and cause the limb to bend and become deformed.
